I am just absolutely stunned by the news today that my idol, Satoshi Kon, passed away.
This is the most upsetting news. I idolized his work; not just because it was animated, but because it was challenging, imaginative material that defied convention. His visual style alone was unique enough. Whenever I looked at his films, they reminded me why I wanted to go into animation, to go into the artistic field at all. I'm just glad I got to at least meet him once before he passed away.
The most upsetting thing of all is that he was only 47. It's way too soon. He had so much potential left. At least when Robert Altman died, he had reached old age.
